Frequently Asked Questions
Are your products handmade?
Yes. Thistlefield & Bloom products are thoughtfully created by our family, in small batches in London, ON Canada, using traditional, hands-on production.
Do you use locally sourced ingredients?
We choose Canadian and locally sourced ingredients and suppliers. Availability varies by ingredient and season, so not every ingredient in every product is locally sourced.
What is tallow?
Tallow is purified rendered beef suet (the fat surrounding the kidney) traditionally used in soapmaking and skin-care formulations. At Thistlefield & Bloom, our tallow is carefully rendered and purified three times by us, before being incorporated into selected products. Our Suet comes directly from local Farmers.
Are all your products made with tallow?
No. Some of our soaps, balms, deodorants, and body-care products contain tallow, while others are made with plant oils, butters, waxes, and other ingredients. Each product page clearly identifies its ingredients.
Are your products fragrance-free?
We offer both scented and unscented products. Bare Bloom, for example, was created as an unscented option for customers who prefer to avoid added fragrance.
Always check the individual product ingredient list before purchasing.
Do you use essential oils?
Some products contain essential oils, while others may use cosmetic-grade fragrance oils or be completely unscented. The individual product listing will tell you what has been used.
Are your products suitable for sensitive skin?
Everyone’s skin is different. We offer simple and fragrance-free options, but we recommend reviewing the full ingredient list and patch-testing a small area before regular use.
Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
Why can handmade products look slightly different from one another?
Small variations in colour, texture, shape, scent, or appearance are a natural part of small-batch handmade production. They don’t mean your product is defective—they’re part of what makes handmade products unique.
How should I store handmade soap?
Allow your soap to dry between uses on a well-draining soap dish and keep it away from standing water. This will help extend the life of the bar.
How should I store tallow balms and body butters?
Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Because these products contain natural fats and oils, temperature changes may soften or firm the texture without affecting the basic product.
Do you ship outside Canada?
Currently, we ship within Canada only.
